1. Editorial
Hello again. It's election day here in Britain, so perhaps I
could take this opportunity to say a big thank-you for giving me
your 'vote' and opting to become an E-Writer subscriber!
I'll try to keep this Editorial brief, because what I really
want to tell you about is my brand new writing course 'Quick
Cash Writing', which is available (at last!) from my publisher,
WCCL.
However, as you'll know from my email sent earlier this week,
there was a glitch in the system last month, which means that a
number of you failed to receive my last issue. Just a reminder,
then, that if you didn't receive E-Writer Issue 18, dated 5
April 2005, you can still view it on the web at
http://www.nickdaws.co.uk/ew018.htm.
In the issue concerned, I mentioned a couple of writing-related
websites that are being run by E-Writer subscribers. As the
information may not have reached everyone on my list, I feel it
is only right and proper to mention those sites again. First,
Patrick Merz from Switzerland has a website called 'The Five
Senses' at http://fivesenses.publixis.ch. Anyone is welcome to
submit entries to this site about anything related to the human
senses: sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. Most of the
entries posted so far are factual, but there is nothing to stop
you posting poems or stories if you wish. Check it out and,
if you like the site, submit your own 'sensory' observations!
I also heard from Kate (sorry, I don't know her surname) about
her new site at http://www.freelancersintheuk.co.uk. As the name
indicates, this site is aimed at freelances living in the UK.
Kate says presently there's an editorial bias, since that's her
area of expertise, but they are hoping to extend into every
freelance market, including illustrating, catering, photography,
interpreting, alternative therapies, music, and so on. At the
moment it's free to register at the website and add your details
to the database of freelances. If you're UK-based and looking
for more freelance work, I strongly recommend registering now
before everyone hears about this site and they start charging!
2. Article: Quick Cash Writing Is Here!
Yes, as mentioned above, my brand new course 'Quick Cash
Writing' is finally available from White Cliff Computing
Limited. Sorry it's taken a bit longer than expected, but my
publisher (and I) wanted to make sure everything about QCW was
in tip-top order before the big release date.
While 'Write Any Book in Under 28 Days' could be sub-titled
'Everything you need to know to write a book in the shortest
possible time', the sub-title of Quick Cash Writing could be
'Everything you need to know to start making money from
freelance writing as quickly as possible.'
In twelve information-packed modules, Quick Cash Writing takes
you through the whole gamut of shorter writing opportunities. To
give you some idea of the breadth of material it covers, here is
the list of modules:
1. Introduction
2. Readers’ Letters
3. Fillers
4. Greetings Cards
5. Slogan-Writing for Consumer Contests
6. Photos and Captions
7. Short Articles and Reviews
8. Short Stories
9. Comedy Writing
10. Puzzles and Teasers
11. Ideas and Formats
12. Taking it Further
Each of these modules is about 8,000 words, so the core course
material comes to a hefty 100,000 words or so. But please don't
think it's just stuff you can read elsewhere or on the Internet.
It isn't. All the material in this course is original, based on
my own experience as a working freelance writer.
Quick Cash Writing assumes no previous knowledge and is ideal
for beginners. However, it's equally suitable if you have bought
my '28 Days' course and are now looking for ways to keep your
bank balance ticking over between royalty payments! And even if
you're an experienced writer, I can guarantee there are outlets
here you won't have thought of.
If you'd like a sneak preview of Quick Cash Writing - which is
suitable for anyone from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India,
Pakistan or anywhere else in the world - you can see an extract
at http://www.nickdaws.co.uk/qcw.htm. Before you go there,
however, please read the following as well...
In addition to the main course material, everyone buying Quick
Cash Writing today will get nine - yes, you read that right -
NINE free bonus programs. These include The Mini-Inspiratron, a
program designed by yours truly to generate an endless stream of
ideas for short stories and other fiction-writing projects. The
Mini-Inspiratron is ONLY available to buyers of Quick Cash
Writing - you won't find it anywhere else, so please don't waste
your time looking!
The other eight bonus programs include more idea generators, a
submission tracker, a program that helps you develop and improve
your fiction-writing projects, and (a favourite of mine) a neat
little program that allows you to save phrases you use regularly
and paste them into any document with just two clicks of your
mouse! Some of the bonus items are time-limited demos, but
others are fully-fledged working programs that will never
expire. I chose them all personally, and I'm sure you'll find
them useful.
But here's the clincher. Buy Quick Cash Writing today via the
link on my website and I'll also throw in a free copy of my
electronic short story writing tutorial, Short Story Acumen. You
can read all about this unique program at
http://tinyurl.com/74z8b.
Short Story Acumen is currently being sold on CD for £24.99
(around $40) by another publisher, but you can have an almost
identical product (supplied electronically as a Zip file) free
of charge. To claim your free copy of SSA, just forward the
confirmation email you receive from White Cliff Computing
Limited after buying Quick Cash Writing. Give your email the
subject line 'Free Gift Claim' so I know immediately what it is.
Send it to me at ewriter-at-nickdaws.co.uk. I will then
email you manually with details of how you can download Short
Story Acumen.
And not only that, in my email I'll let you know all about yet
another great writing freebie. I won't tell you what it is here,
but in the long term it could prove even more valuable than all
the other free gifts put together. Intrigued? I hope so!
So how much is Quick Cash Writing and all these free bonus
items? Amazingly, my publishers have decided to put it on the
market for just $39.95 (that's around £25 for my UK customers!).
There are other writing courses on the market costing up to ten
times this amount that include far less info and resources (I
know - I've written some of them!). Any way you look at it, the
course is under-priced, and I'm sure that when WCCL realise this
they will increase it. So please, if you want a copy of Quick
Cash Writing at this ultra-low price, don't hesitate too long.
And there's another reason I would strongly recommend that you
act quickly. I will only be able to keep open the offer of a
free bonus copy of Short Story Acumen for a few weeks. And no,
this isn't just a cheap trick to get you to buy now. Giving SSA
away will obviously affect sales of the paid-for version, and
make me very unpopular with the publishers. Not only that, other
people selling Quick Cash Writing via their sites may well feel
it is unfair that they cannot give this program away to their
clients as well. So this really does have to be a limited term,
one-time-only, special offer!
Once again then, to read an extract from Quick Cash Writing,
please go now to http://www.nickdaws.co.uk/qcw.htm. Then click
on one of the banners on this page to visit my publisher's sales
page and place your order. When you receive email confirmation
from my publisher, WCCL, send me a copy of their email with the
subject line 'Free Gift Claim'. Once I have checked your order
and verified that you placed it via a link on my website, I will
email you back with details of how you can access your free copy
of Short Story Acumen, and the other free bonus item.
As you may gather, I am very excited about Quick Cash Writing,
which effectively rounds off the project I began with 'Write Any
Book in Under 28 Days' to pass on my writing experience and
knowledge to anyone interested in building their own writing
career. I do hope you will consider investing in a copy - and I
hope that if you do, in combination with 'Write Any Book in
Under 28 Days', it will help you to fulfil all of your writing
ambitions.

Writing and selling a screenplay is the ultimate dream for many
authors. Yet many feel that this is some kind of private club
from which they, as 'ordinary' writers, are excluded. Nothing
could be further from the truth! You really can write and sell a
successful screenplay - but you do need to understand how
screenplays are structured, presented and sold.
"Make Your Screenplay Sell" is a must-have tool for new
screenwriters. It's a downloadable e-book by Nick Dunning, a
successful author with over 20 years' screenwriting and
entertainment industry experience. Nick's book will help you
create screenplays that are unique, unusual, surprising and
original. Purchasers also receive a host of free bonuses,
including a list of 450 US movie producers who may want to buy
your screenplay, and a guide to formatting your treatment and
script correctly.
"Make Your Screenplay Sell" is currently available at a bargain
basement price of $19.95 (around £11 at current exchange rates),
and you even get free advice from the author himself thrown in.
Check out all the details now at http://tinyurl.com/68akt.

3. Market Info - Miscellany
Here are a few more potential markets for you, starting with an
appeal I received by email from a lady who is looking for a
writer to work with her. Unfortunately I did not have the time
in my schedule to take on this project, but maybe an E-Writer
subscriber would be interested?
Louise Wood is a recent widow who is looking for a writer to
work with her to prepare a book for people who have experienced
loss. She says: "I have looked for support and stories as to
'how to do this'. Most writings are too technical, too
preachy...I would like to offer an anthology for people who have
suffered loss, covering ways to help yourself, ways to cope, or
ways of learning how not to cope." Louise says she is a software
consultant, not a writer, so she needs someone to work with her,
to help bring her ideas to fruition. Terms would obviously be
negotiable. If you are interested, please drop Louise a line at
dyswood-at-warwick.net, telling her a bit about yourself and
what you feel you might be able to bring to this project.
Changeling Press LLC is a new, US-based, electronic publishing
house. They have just called for submissions of speculative or
cross-genre erotica and erotic romance (e.g. romantic suspense,
science fiction romance, futuristic romance, paranormal romance,
romantic comedy, romance with anything else, or non-traditional
romances). Stories should have a high degree of sexual tension
and erotica, complemented by a full plot and excellent
characterization. The minimum length is 10,000 words, up to
40,000 words maximum. Changeling Press say they promote an
author-friendly environment aimed at encouraging creativity, and
they promise to support authors in promotions and marketing.
Authors are paid monthly royalties on their contracted works.
Full details can be found at http://www.changelingpress.com.
Blue Mountain Arts is interested in reviewing writings suitable
for publication on greeting cards. They are looking for highly
original and creative submissions on friendship, family, special
occasions, positive living, and other topics one person might
want to share with another. Submissions may also be considered
for inclusion in book anthologies. They pay $300 for all rights
and $50 if your poem is used only in an anthology. To request a
copy of their writers' guidelines, send a blank email to
writings-at-sps.com with "Send Me Guidelines" in the subject
line, or write to them at: Blue Mountain Arts, Inc., Editorial
Department, Post Office Box 1007, Boulder, CO 80306, USA.
If you have had an embarrassing experience, you could turn it to
profit at http://www.splitmyside.com. This website is collecting
funny stories about people's most embarrassing moments. They
say, "Within the story tell us a little bit about yourself, the
type of person you are. The events surrounding the moment, the
people involved and what they are like. Describe exactly what
happened and tell us what you felt during the event and right
after. Also what transpired following the event to yourself and
the people involved in the story." A fee of $200 is paid for
each story used. To send in your tale, just click on the tab
titled 'Submit Story' and follow the on-screen instructions.
Women only for this next one! Keen Publications are looking for
stories of "aggressive, creative women who made the first move -
and maybe even the second and third - to get the man of their
dreams", for a book to be published in early 2006. They are
paying $20 for each story they accept that explains how you did
something proactive, unique or even outrageous, to get your man.
Maximum story length is 500 words, and they say they are only
seeking stories of successful first moves made by women that
resulted in marriage or a committed relationship. The best
stories will be accepted for publication and for payment. You
may choose to remain anonymous or you can be credited by name,
whichever you prefer. Email your story to
KEENPUBLICATIONS-at-AOL.COM with GRAB THAT TIGER in the
subject line.
Summersdale Publishers Ltd is a new UK-based publisher
specialising in how-to books (including several for budding
writers). They are happy to consider proposals from writers, but
ask that before contacting them you look at their website at
http://www.summersdale.com to get an idea of the sort of book
they publish. If you have an idea you think would suit their
style, they ask you to submit a chapter-by-chapter synopsis
along with the first three chapters. Proposals can be attached
to an email in the form of a single MS Word document to
submissions-at-summersdale.com, but a hard copy is
preferred. Their postal address is: Summersdale Publishers Ltd,
46 West Street, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1RP.
The agency Online Content UK is urgently seeking a UK-based
freelance writer for three to four weeks starting asap. The
selected candidate will need to work on-site in Hertfordshire
for a few days, then remotely. The project involves working on a
new website with a digital media and film industry audience (not
consumer). They are looking for someone with experience creating
punchy web copy, experience with writing both info copy and
articles, and experience writing about the digital media and
film industries (not just film reviews). To apply, e-mail
Elizabeth Varley at jobs-at-onlinecontentuk.org asap with:
* UHFFDMW in the subject line
* an overview of your relevant experience
* your CV if you have it to hand
* confirmation of your ability to be on-site in Herts for a few
days
* confirmation of your availability for May
* your daily rate.
Finally, Deep Outside is a paying professional magazine of SF
and dark imaginative fiction, aimed at people who love to read
well-plotted, character-driven, genre fiction. They publish
short (1500-4000 words) science fiction, horror, and darkly
imaginative fiction. They say they are looking for well-written,
professionally executed fiction, with attention to the basics:
grammar, punctuation, usage. They do not accept sword & sorcery,
pornography, or excessive violence and gore beyond the
legitimate needs of a story. Payment is 3 cents a word for first
serial rights for one year. All stories must be submitted via e-
mail to storysub-at-clocktowerfiction.com. They have quite
specific requirements regarding the format of submissions, so
before emailing your story read carefully the information page
at http://www.clocktowerfiction.com/Main/guidelines.shtml.
That's it for this issue. I do hope you've enjoyed reading it
and found something that may be useful to you. E-Writer will be
back again in a few weeks' time.
All good wishes,
Nick
