| 2. Publish Articles
A popular and effective way of driving traffic to any website is
submitting articles to article directories. These are websites that
publish writers' work free of charge as long as it meets their
particular requirements. They won't pay you, but will make your
articles available to other people for use in their own websites and
newsletters.
What is the advantage of this? Well, every article includes a
resource box, which will contain your name and website URL, and any
other information you wish to include. People are only allowed to
republish your article on condition that they include the information
in your resource box too, usually at the end of the article. By this
means, your article - and your website details - can be rapidly
syndicated across the web.
Many article directories also have subscriber lists of people who
have asked to receive all new articles in particular categories. This
means that your articles will be broadcast all over the world. Some of
the more popular article directories are:

If you want to submit multiple articles to lots of different
article directories, you can purchase software that will automate some
aspects of the submission process and so free up more time for
writing. One program of this type is Article Submitter. You can find

Article directories normally provide some means of checking the
statistics for your articles. Once you are logged in to your account,
you should be able to see how many times your articles have been
viewed, downloaded or emailed to others. This information can be very
useful in helping to assess the most popular topics among readers and
website publishers. Once you know what these are, you can write more
articles on these subjects (and perhaps more e-books about them as
well).
If you're writing articles to promote your e-book sales site, you
will obviously want to produce articles that cover the same general
subject area. Don't give away all your best content, though.
Your articles should contain just enough information to whet readers'
appetite, so that they will want to buy your e-book to get the whole
scoop.
And, of course, in the resource section you will include a plug for
your e-book and a list to your sales site. Something like this,
perhaps:
Joe Smith is a professional careers
consultant with many years' experience helping unemployed people
retrain and find work. His top-selling guide 'Finding a New Job in a
Recession' is available from www.get-a-new-job-today.com.
Always aim to submit good-quality articles that include a few
genuinely useful nuggets of information. People will judge you by your
writing, and if they don't like the quality of your work when it's
free, they certainly won't want to buy an e-book from you...
